Voters in Rwamucucu Sub County, Rukiga district on Tuesday voted in favor of lifting the Presidential age limit.
The amendment, presented before parliament by Igara West MP, Raphael Magyezi, seeks to delete article 102 (b) of the constitution, which caps the president’s age at 75. This would enable President Yoweri Museveni to contest for another term of office. He is now aged and would not be eligible to contest again.
Voters told their District Woman member of Parliament, Hon,Kamusime Muhwezi during a consultative meeting at Rukiga District Headquarters,Rushebeya that they have no problem with amending article 102(b) of the constitution and President Museveni standing until he dies.
Rwanku Ngasheki from Ibumba Parish says that he fully supports the removal of age limit for President Museveni to stand again because he has improved security in the country, Ngasheki also says that Museveni deserves more chance to lead Uganda as President because he has played a very big role towards the development of infrastructure, health, among other departments.
Hope Turyahikayo another voter says that she supports age limit removal because President Museveni has helped women who used to be marginalized in the past regimes to also gain their rights.
Hon.Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi promised to represent their decision before parliament.
On Monday during consultative meeting with district political and National Resistance Movement-NRM leaders, 167 voted in favor while only five voted against the amendment.
