A group of Moslems in Mbarara district through Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) have petitioned the Justice Catherine Bamugemereire’s land probe commission seeking for the commission’s intervention into their matters.
The muslim community in Mbarara have for years been engaged in running battles with a Mbarara based business man Suleiman Tumusiime challenging a decision to take over the land that used to work as cemetery.
The land in question is plot 68 along Mbarara –Masaka highway in Mbarara town.
The petitioners led by one Adam Hamdan have told the land Probe that between 2010 and 2016, their former UMSC Mbarara Secretary General Yahaya Semugenzi who also doubled as a member to Mbarara district land board and the then District Khadi Sheikh Ramadhan Hamisi connived and fraudulently sold the cemetery to Tycoon Suleiman Tumusiime.
According to the lead petitioner Hamdan, the Cemetery has been a Muslim Land since 1920’s.
The Muslim community now wants the commission to intervene into the matter and ensure that the businessman vacates the contested land.
