The Minister for Information and National guidance Hon Frank Tumwebaze has hit back at Col Dr Kiiza Besigye the former FDC Presidential candidate over his stance on constitutional amendment bill number 2 of 2017.
The bill presented to parliament by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi
seeks to amend Article 102 (b) of the Constitution, which caps the
presidential age at 75.
Dr Besigye who was a delegate in the constituent assembly which is the brain behind the 1995 constitution opposed his colleagues who were in favour of the age limit for the presidential candidates at the time.
However, Dr Besigye is now opposed to the amendment.
Quoting Besigye’s remarks in the Hansard, Tumwebaze told the public recently during the consultative meetings in the sub counties of Biguli, Bwizi and Nkoma-Kateryeba town council in Kamwenge district that Dr Besigye is contradicting himself.
Minister Tumwebaze did not have kind words for opposition leader saying that the opposition leader is only aimed at frustrating plans by the National resistance Movement –NRM party to front president Museveni as their flag bearer in 2021.
Tumwebaze says that the opposition leaders are only scared of the president’s ability and political strength.
Tumwebaze says that president Museveni is admired by the majority of Ugandans.
Tumwebaze is one of the legislators that are pushing for the removal of the age limit saying that it is good for Uganda and its future.
