Rev.Fr.Gaetano Batanyenda has called on the ruling National resistance movement – NRM party to desist from issuing disciplinary threats against its members of parliament opposed to the lifting of the age limit.
Gaetano who is the chairperson of the inter-religious council and also Parish priest of Kitanga Parish in Rukiiga district told our reporter at his office of Sunday evening that is unfortunate that members of parliament from the ruling party whose constituents have asked not to endorse the lifting of the age limit currently capped at 75 by the constitution are being threatened with disciplinary action.
Fr. Gaetano’s remarks come barely days after the prime minister of Uganda Ruhakana Rugunda called for disciplinary action to be taken against Rubanda county west member of parliament Denis Sabiiti accusing him of deviating from the party position of scrapping the age limit from the constitution to enable president Museveni seek for another term in office.
Now Gaetano wants the ruling party to stop issuing what he described as cowardly threats and instead do what Ugandans are interested in. He says that it is time for Ugandans to witness a peaceful transition in the history of Uganda and that the actions of the NRM risk throwing the country into confusion.
