Mbarara Municipal Speaker Released on Bail

Bonny Tashobya, the speaker Mbarara Municipal council has today been afternoon been granted bail.

Tashobya who was on Monday a no show despite a promise by Police to arraign the speaker in court in connection to an acid attack on Amos Katureebe, the Nyamityoora B ward councilor.

Katureebe was attacked outside his gate by unidentified people on Wednesday last week. The attackers poured acid on Katureebe’s face and private parts.

As a result, Police picked up Tashobya as a prime suspect in the attack. The two politicians have been arch enemies since Katureebe embarked on a mission to dislodge Tashobya from his seat.

The speaker is accused of conniving with the Mayor, Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi and Town Clerk, Charles Lwanga to tamper with budget papers and execute works that weren’t approved by the Council.

Today afternoon, Tashobya was arraigned in court before
Court in Mbarara before chief magistrate Mariam Akello Ayo and released on bail.

Tashobya who appeared in court today was charged with attempted murder.

He was bonded 1million shillings non cash while his 5 securities were each bonded 2million shillings non cash.

Tashobya will appear in court on 06th December 2017 when his case will come up again for mention.
