There is hope that the water challenge in Kisoro district will soon be history thanks to a 4.8 billion shillings water project.
Kisoro district has for years battled a perennial challenge of water with National Water and Sewerage Corporation unable to sort out the problem.
A new project is however set to sort out all this. The Nkanka project that will extend to as far as Chucho and see the establishment of a new reservoir Tank at Mutolere will carter for the needs of the people of Kisoro and ensure steady and reliable water supply in the south western Ugandan district.
According to Kisoro district local council five chairperson Abel Bizimana, the district on Thursday hosted engineers from Netherlands-funded Water for Virunga W4V, a Great Lakes Region project attempting to reduce conflict around Virunga area.
According to Bizimana the project is aimed at ensuring that locals do not encroach on protected areas in search of water.
Bizimana adds that the water will be used for irrigation and other activities.
