Kabale Hospital Staff Lay Down Tools

Work on Friday grounded to a halt at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital after the staff laid down their tools over un paid salaries.

The medical workers laid down their tools this morning to compel to hospital administrators to release their salaries for November.

About 400 health workers and casual labourers at the hospital have not received their salary for November while others missed October salary. The affected workers include nurses, paramedics and support staff.

The health workers claim that they have getting their pay between 17th and 25th of every month wondering why they have not received the pay for last month.

Omulondo Mubangizi a health worker says that they laid down tools to seek answers to why they have not received salary since it is their right.

Innocent Habakurama another health worker says that most of the health workers do not have money for rent, food and transport for their children from school.

Denis Turyatunga another health worker says that they have agreed to go back to hospital wards for work when they receive payments.

The Kabale regional referral hospital Principal Nursing officer Sister Christine Akurut declined to comment on the matter claiming that our reporter did not seek permission from administration to cover the strike.

She also impounded our reporters I pad and locked him outside the hospital gate. However she was compelled by striking health workers to return the I pad.
