Patients Stuck as Kabale Hospital Staff Goes on Strike

By APN Reporter

Patients and their caretakers at Kabale regional referral hospital spent Friday stranded after workers in the hospital laid down their tools.

Over 300 medics and other staff at the hospital took part in a sit down strike accusing the hospital administration of inconsistencies in payment of their salaries.

Some of the workers said that their salaries for November had delayed beyond the usual payment schedule without any explanation. They said that others have taken more than 2 months without getting their payment.

” we wonder why the administration has not come out to explain about this problem. we shall not resume work until our salaries are paid,” said one of the workers on conditions of anonymity.

Some patients and their caretakers at the hospital said the one day strike affected them negatively as they could not get attended to. They said that they will leave the hospital for other options if the strike continues.

” I do not know what to do next because m wife seriously needs attention. I may be forced to take her back home if this remains like this,” said Alex Sunday who had brought his wife for antenatal care.

Efforts to get in touch with the hospital administration for a comment were in vain since most of the administrators were not in office.
