President Museveni has revealed that the government is now focusing on reducing the new cases of disability.
The president was speaking at the National celebrations to mark the international day of persons with disabilities held at Kamwenge primary school grounds in Kamwenge district.
The celebrations were held under the theme “Employment of Persons with disabilities: A key to a resilient and sustainable society for all”.
The remarks by the president were in response to a concern raised by Night Grace the vice Chairperson for National Union of disabled persons of Uganda (NUDPU) calling for a special consideration of the PWDS that would see the government have in place a minister for persons with disabilities.
Night Grace had also expressed concern that little was being done by the government to enforce laws that deter discrimination based on disability and guarantee equal opportunities.

However the president insists that reducing the number of new cases of disability is very key instead of creating a ministry.
