World Vision Rukiga faces eviction over rent

Parents of Kakatunda primary school, have given World vision Rukiga cluster an ultimatum of 72hours to clear their outstanding rent arrears of 4.2million shillings or be forcefully evicted.

The parents reached at the decision yesterday during a meeting that they held at the school grounds in Kakatunda village, Nyakabungo ward in Muhanga town council, Rukiga district.

The parents led by the parents Teachers Association-PTA Chairperson, Silverio Nkurunungi, said that their school gave land to World Vision Rukiga built their offices in 1999, under a partnership with a memorandum of understanding that would expire in 2013. At the time, World Vision was operating in Southern Rukiga. However in 2013 when World vision shifted its operations to Northern Rukiga, it signed a new memorandum of understanding with the school, and they agreed that the organization would be paying 200,000shling for rent.

Now the parents say that World Vision has not paid their rent from January 2016 to date.

When our reporter contacted the world division Rukiga branch manager, Charles Ssentamu, he said that he was not aware of the parents’ claims, because he has not been in office since last Monday.
