Kabale student buried alive in a sand mine





A senior three student of St. Charles Secondary School Kitumba in Kitumba Sub county, Kabale district was yesterday afternoon buried alive while mining sand.

Nobert Naturinda, in his 18’s was mining sand, along Kabale-Katuna road in Rukarango village, Buranga parish, Kamuganguzi Sub County, Kabale district. The deceased is a resident of the same residence. According to the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi Region, Elly Maate, Naturinda was buried alive after a pit he was mining caved in.

Maate says that another yet to be identified person who was standing on top of the pit to receive the sand was also seriously injured on the leg. Maate blames locals in the area for defying government’s ban on sand mining and stone quarrying at the place.
