All roads will on Wednesday lead to Kisoro district for this year’s International Community of Banyakigezi (ICOB)-Uganda chapter convention.
The two day convention will run under the theme “Entrepreneurship through greening our environment.”
Prior to the convention, a campaign aimed at improving the green cover of the region dubbed “the Kisoro Go green campaign,” will be underway to ensure that every household plants at least two trees. This campaign was launched by the Premier Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda in October.
The Prime Minister, Rugunda is expected to be the chief guest of this convention.
According to Dr. Francis Runuumi, the ICOB-Uganda chapter president, some of the key activities shall include a youth expo, nature walks, community enterprise talks, cultural performances and developmental lectures among others.
Runuumi said that the convention shall also involve the formulation of strategic plans for the development of the region and the filling of vacant positions in the executive.
“We have a lot of hopes in this year’s convention because our region deserves a serious strategy to combat the existing challenges,” said Runuumi.
Eng. Ivan Batuma, the newly appointed Kigezi Tourism Cluster Chairperson hopes that the convention will in its planning help in improving the tourism of the region.
“Tourism is our main exchange as Kigezi and we hope to discuss a lot about the challenges affecting this sector and how it can be improved,” he said.
Clare Atwongyere, the Miss Tourism Kigezi coordinator said that the convention will also help in the formulation of strategies aimed at helping the youth in taking part in the region’s development.
“Our youth have a great responsibility in the future development of our region and nation at large. If we plan for them well, they will be more effective in future,” she said
