Police in Rukungiri is stuck with two unclaimed bodies at Rwakabengo health centre3 mortuary in Rukungiri municipality Rukungiri district.
The unidentified bodies are of a man and women were discovered over the weekend.
Sylivia Kasoga, the Officer in Charge of criminal investigations department Rukungiri police station says the body of a man in his 30’s was discovered on 5th January 2018 at Birara Bridge in Nyakagyeme Sub County, the bridge connects Kanungu and Rukungiri districts.
She said that unidentified dead body of a man was found with deep wounds on the head, dumped in a river.
“We found this body in the waters, stuck in the weeds of the banks, it had no identifications, we got it did a postmortem and put it in the mortuary”. She said.
That one of the woman was found at Kiborogota Bridge in Kebisoni Sub County on 6th January 2018 with no head lying on the ground near the river.
“we have one person in custody over the murder of this woman as we investigate”. She said.
She refused giving details of the suspect not to jeopardize investigations.
The suspect is detained at Rukungiri police station.
Police says that file reference numbers CRB023/2018 and SDREF 09/06/01/18 were opened at Rukungiri police station as investigations are ongoing and hunting for unknown assailants.
Mr Moses Nanoka, the District Police commander Rukungiri Police Station, said the investigating officers have resorted to move around with photographs of dead persons to establish their relatives.
“We are keeping the bodies at Rwakabengo Health Center 3 Mortuary as the search for their identities and relatives continues.
“My humble appeal is if anyone has taken long without hearing from a friend or relative let them come and cross check on these two” he said.
