60 teams are taking part in the seventh edition of the Kabale youth football tournament sponsored by Emma and Teresa children project that kicked off in Kabale on Monday.
48 boys’ teams and 12 girls’ teams registered to participate in this year’s tournament.
The participant teams have been graded in three categories according to years .They include 10-11 years that consists of 16 teams for boys and 2 teams for girls,13-14years that consist of 16 teams for boys and 5 teams for girls. The 16-18 years category consists of 16 teams for boys and 5 teams for girls.
In the opening matches in the under 10-11 years boys Central division FC beat Rutooma raising stars FC by 1-0 that was scored by Alex Asiimwe in the 2nd minute of the game as in the girls raising stars beat CJ girls 1-0.
In the under 14 boys Emma boys beat shepherd centre 2-0 whereas in the girls Kigezi soccer drew with unique sports academy 0-0
In the under 17 boys unique beat Kigezi soccer 1-0 as in the girls Emma girls beat bright stars 1-0.
Sam Arinatwe the central division LC3 chairman while opening the tournament encouraged parents to always encourage their children to engage in sports activities as this will be the way of developing their skills.
Arinatwe says that sports help the young ones to develop their talents as also stop them from engaging in bad acts like drug abuse, promiscuity that may lead them to getting unwanted pregnancies and as well as acquiring the deadly Aids.
Alex Musinguzi the coordinator of the tournament says that the tournament begun in 2013 with four teams taking part as a way of keeping busy the children in the four Nongovernmental organization focusing on former streets kids as way of keeping them busy during the holidays.
