Moses Kahiima of the National resistance movement party was last night declared the winner of the Ruhaama county Parliamentary seat by-elections.
Robert Beine the electoral commission returning officer for Ntungamo district declared Kahiima the winner at 23:30hrs after gathering the highest number of votes.
Kahiima gannered 31, 102 votes against his closet challenger Eng Jackson Mubangizi Kabikiire and independent candidate who gannered 16,345 votes. Dr. Peninah Beinomugisha came in the third position with 2,103 votes and vastine orishaba in the last position with 523 votes.
The total of valid votes cast was 50,073 while 703 votes were invalid. Ruhaama county has total of 116,883 registered voters and 199 polling stations spread across 8 sub counties and 3 town councils.
Shortly after being declared the Winner, Moses Kahiima revealed that his first priority will be uniting the people of Ruhaama who he revealed needed to be reconciled after a the elections.
Other candidates were not at the tally centred hosted by Ntungamo district council hall by the time results were announced.
The voting was held amidst tight security but no cases of security interfering with the voting process has so far been reported.
Cases of ballot stuffing were also reported and police cofirmed arresting an agent to the NRM candidate Moses Kahiima who was found in possession of pre ticked ballots. his identities were however with held.
The vexercise that was characterised by a low voter turn up started late at most of the polling stations after polling officials delayednto arrive on time. at some stations, the agents delayed to arrive leaving no one to witness the opening of the polling stations.
