The 2018 Brethren conference of the Diocese of Kigezi on Sunday came to an end with a call on Christians to desist from the temptations of the world.
The conference which started on Friday at the Rugarama Convention grounds was organised under the theme, “Do not conform to the standards of this world,” from Romans 12:2.
While preaching to the masses that had turned up for the conference, the retired Bishop of Cyangugu diocese in Rwanda, Geoffrey Rwubusisi blamed the increasing cases of violence in society to the selfishness of some individuals.
“When you access the media today you are shocked to find that it is awash with stories that indicate a violent country. All this is as a result of the selfishness of some people in our communities,” said Rwubusisi.
Bishop Rwubusisi condemned the last year fights that rocked parliament during the tabling of the age-limit bill saying that they were a depiction of a barbaric society.
“We could not imagine seeing our educated legislators fighting like villagers in parliament. This exactly shows how the devil has taken control of our families,” added Rwubusisi.
Rev. Joshua Murindabigwe from All Saints Church, Mbarara asked believers to use peaceful means in solving domestic related problems.
“It is unfortunate to hear Christians engaging in domestic fights. We have the bible as our guidance on how to handle some of our home-based challenges,” said Murindabigwe.
The Kigezi Diocesan Bishop, George Bagamuhunda said that the conference was organised to prepare Christians and to guide them towards the rightful path in the New Year.
“We usually wish to have our Christians directed by divine power every year. We therefore hope that those who took part in this conference shall live according to the expectations of this year’s theme that discourages them from conforming to the earthly standards,” said Bagamuhunda.
Ronald Bainomugisha, one of the participants said that he was spiritually uplifted by the various messages he received in the 3 days conference.
“I feel so energised to go back home with a heart of praise and I am ready to fight sin by all accounts. I shall also do well to all those who come closer to me this year,” said Bainomugisha.
