Ankole “King” Granted Bail

Mbarara magistrate’s court has today granted bail to Ankole crown claimant Prince Umar Asiimwe Rubambansi and four of his four ministers.

Asiimwe and his ministers Max Muhumuza, Joseph Kankiriho, Brenda Katushemerirwe and Wycliff Amanya were arrested on 15th of this month and charged with 7 cases among them promoting sectarianism, impersonation among others.

The prince is also accused of defying directives issued by Gender Minister Janat Mukwaya stopping him from any activity related to the promotion of Kingdom in Ankole.

The charges range from inciting violence, promoting sectarianism and impersonation among others like staging unlawful assemblies and defying minister’s orders.

Appearing before Mbarara grade one magistrate Sanyu Mukasa, the five were each bailed for 3million shillings non cash.

The group’s first attempt to secure bail on the 20th of February 2018 hit a dead end after the state insisted that they were yet to conclude investigations into the matter.

They five are expected back in court on 12th April this 2018.
