The Cavendish University vice chancellor Prof John Mugisha Katekyeza has expressed concern over the huge amounts of money charged in traditional schools.
The professor who was on Saturday speaking at the Thanks giving for Rwentobo high school in Ntungamo district to celebrate good performance at Uganda certificate of Education and Uganda Advance Certificate of Education and examinations revealed that the money charged in traditional schools on several occasions does not correspond with the performance of students.
He cautioned parents on choosing to pay high amounts of money for students in secondary schools yet this may not necessarily lead to the students attaining higher grades.
The western region head of the schools inspection Directorate of education standards Luben Mugarura Elia said most schools are failing to institutionalize with directors acting as school heads despite being registered with head teachers.
He said that once school directors interfere with the running of the school, professionalism is compromised.
