Kigezi Province-1 Vs Lango Province-1
Action rocked Kabale Municipal Stadium on Sunday afternoon as Kigezi Province took on Lango province in the FUFA drum tournament.
The game attracted hundreds of supporters from Kigezi to support their home based stars with an expectation of victory.
The first half ended with a goalless draw leaving the excited fans with a hope of an improved performance in the second half.
However the 56th minute saw Osama Farouk from Lango banging in a goal from a corner set piece.
This increased the pressure among Kigezi players as they never wanted to register a loss at home.
With the match nearing to its end without any visible signs of a goal from the hosting team, fans had started loosing the charisma until in the 89th minute when Alex Mandela was fouled by Emmanuel Ocha forcing the Refree Patrick Kunihira to award the hosts a penalty.
The Penalty which taken by David Ndihabwe, the Kigezi captain went straight into Lango’s net stirring excitement into the fans.
To Bob Obira, the Lango province head coach, this penalty was not fairly given since the foul against Mandela seemed not that dangerous.
“The referee wanted the host team not loose and he just awarded them a fake penalty. We are not happy at all with this kind of approach,” said Obira.
David Ndihabwe, the Kigezi captain said that despite their hardwork and expectations, the team was just unlucky even at home.
“We were so hopeful of a win after defeating Buganda province in our first game but anyway soccer is soccer. We hope to do better next time,” he said.
This draw makes Lango the Group leaders with 4 points followed by Kigezi.
