Gov’t Considering to Secure Land for Batwa Communities

Government of Uganda is set to allocate land to the marginalized Batwa community in kigezi sub region as one way of transforming them.

According to Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda the Prime Minister of Uganda revealed this while addressing the media at his home in Northern Division where he revealed that as government they are concerned about the lives of Batwa community in the kigezi sub region and explained that they have already established a committee which is headed by Ministry of Gender , Labor and social development plus several government departments that will be for the allocation and improvement of Batwa communities including giving them land.

Gad Semajeri one of the Batwa that were evacuated from the forest of Ecuya to Mushanje village, Kashaasha parish in Bufundi sub county Rubanda district in early 1992 while speaking with our reporter today , he explained that as Batwa communities living in Kigezi region and across the country they are advocating to have land to boost their economy.

Semajeri noted that they fell marginalized and discriminated by the communities that are surrounding them.

In addition, Semajeri revealed that they are facing several challenges like low levels education standards, no specific land for them ,they live as surfs yet before they were living peacefully in forests of Ecuya, Bwindi, Mugahinga and viruga freelyI.
