10 Arrested for Encroaching on Forest

Kibaale

Police in Kibaale district has arrested ten suspected forest
encroachers after they were found felling trees from Kangombe central
forest reserve in Kibaale district.

According to the Kibaale district Police Commander David Otabong, the
ten people were arrested today morning during an operation by National
Forestry Authority and environmental police to crack down suspected
forest encroachers in Kibaale forest reserves.

Otabong could not mention the names of the suspects in order not to
jeopardize with investigations. He added that the suspects shall be
taken to court next week and answer charges of encroachment on forest
reserve.

He further cautioned residents in Kibaale against encroaching on wet
lands and forest reserves.

Boaz Basigirendaa, the NFA Sector Manager Kibaale said operations to
wipe out suspected forest encroachers in other reserves like Kanaga,
Ruzaire, Kijuna, Nyabiku in Kagadi and Kibaale Districts are
continuing.
