Kabale Legislator Concerned Over Cases of Domestic Violence

Atwakiire has expressed concern over the rampant cases of domestic Violence in Uganda and called on spouses to learn to be tolerant to another.

Hon Atwakiire made observation yesterday while speaking to Christians of St
John’s Bugongi Church of Uganda, during celebrations to commemorate
international Mothers day.

The legislator observed that the increase in domestic violence has retarded
development in most families, since spouses cannot plan for their families
together.

World Health Organization (WHO) states that globally, about 38% of murders
of women are committed by an intimate partner.

The 2013 Uganda Bureau of Statistics, reported that close to 70% of “ever-married women aged 15 to 49 had experienced some form of violence” at the hands of their partner.
