Two British tourists, who were kidnapped last Friday in Virunga National Park, were released Sunday (May 13th), sources at the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN) said.
Unidentified gunmen kidnapped them between Kilimanyoka and Kibumba in Nyiragongo territory (North Kivu).
ICCN sources indicate that it is currently difficult to decide on the terms of their release, promising to give more details later.
The same sources indicate that these two tourists were found in the middle of the park between two volcanoes, Nyamulagira and Nyiragongo, where they were brought by their captors.
In this region, several local and foreign armed groups are raging there.
These include Mai-Mai Nyatura, Rwandan FDLR rebels and youth from Nyiragongo territory.
