Peter Ssebutinde the Mbarara district health officer has challenged men to participate in supporting the girl child Education in a bid to realized good health.
Ssebutinde says that men have on several occasions abandoned the responsibility of taking care of children especially the girl child when it comes to girls when they are in their monthly periods.
Ssebutinde was presiding over a ceremony to hand over sanitary pads to the girls at Rubingo Nyanja primary school in Bucuro sub-county mbarara district.
The pads are donation from Uganda volunteers group a community based organization in Mbarara District.
Mugisha Gilbert Karengye the coordinator of Uganda volunteers group says one of the aims of this organization is to support the girl children by providing them with sanitary pads to ensure that they attain school without interference.
Karengye says that there is need for the government to move in and support children especially those from humble families to get access to sanitary pads.
Nathan Itungo the Kashari south member of parliament commended Uganda volunteers group for the intervention and urged parents to ensure that their daughters are supported.
