Woman Dies While Fleeing from Rwandan Forces

A Rwandan National identified as Elizabeth Mukarugwiza (37) has this afternoon collapsed to death as she fled from Rwandan forces at Cyanika border with Uganda.

The deceased who is a resident of Kinigi village, Nyamirima parish, Musanza county, Musanza District, Rwanda was trying to cross into Uganda to buy food when Rwandan forces tried to block her from accessing Uganda through a porous border point.

The Rwandan authorities have for the past weeks been advising their nationals not to cross into Uganda on grounds that their safety could not be guaranteed.
It has been a common practice for Rwandan nationals living near the Uganda –Rwanda Border to cross into Uganda to buys supplies especially food stuffs.

The deceased who was also pregnant collapsed as she jumped to the Ugandan side and collapsed dying instantly.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that the Ugandan authorities were trying to engage their authorities on the Rwandan side to ensure that the body is handed over to the relatives.
