A 40.1 billion shillings budget for the financial year 2019-2020 was on Thursday passed for the Mbarara and Rwampara districts in a meeting held at Rwampara county headquarters.
The meeting was the first ever session to be held in Rwampara ahead of preparations for the operationalization of the new district in July 2019.
The council session presided over by Mbarara district speakers Barham Nyaguma allocated a total of 17.6 billion shillings to Rwampara district while Mbarara will take 23.6 billion shillings.
Mbarara district secretary for finance Bazil Batariganya says that the bigger portion of the budget will spent on health and education.
Bataringaya further revealed that funds will also be set aside to carter for the renovation of structures at the former Rwampara county headquarters in Kinoni which will host the district headquarters.
Mbarara district local council five chairperson Capt. JB Tumusiime Bamuturaki revealed that the leadership of Mbarara district is eagerly waiting for the new financial year that will see Rwampala become an independent district.
He called on leaders in the newly created district to continue focusing on service delivery and not their personal interests.
Parliament for Rwampara county legislator Charles Ngabirano called on the leaders in the area to desist from engaging in un necessary clicks which he revealed will split the new district.
