The 2019 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results were officially released today Thursday Feb 27,2020,at the President’s Office Auditorium. The results were handed over to the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Honorable Janet Museveni by Prof Mary Okwakol, the UNEB chairperson and Mr. Dan Odongo, the Executive secretary.
A total of 104,476 candidates registered for the examinations from 2,295 centers compared to 999,516 candidates from 2,094 centers in 2018.
A total of 43,625 female candidates registered for UACE in 2019 compared to 41,296 in 2018. Females constituted 41.8% of the total number compared to 41,296 in 2018.
At the minimum two principle level required for university admission, 65,723 candidates (63.6%) qualify.
History, Christian Religious Education, Literature in English, Mathematics, Physics, Agriculture and Biology have shown better performance than in 2018. However, Economics, Geography and chemistry showed a decline.
Prof. Mary Okwakol said UNEB introduced new measures to enhance the accuracy of data capture. Each candidates’s score was captured twice to detect and eliminate any discrepancies. She also said that registration fees for UNEB have remained the same as for 2019, that is Shs 34,000 for PLE, Shs 164,000 for UCE and Shs 186,000 for UACE.
Honorable Janet Museveni said the timely release of the results allows sufficient time for tertiary institutions to plan for their selections and enables parents and candidates themselves to make decisions on other options. She was also happy to note that performance has improved and more learners can transit to the next level manning there is more efficiency in the education system.
The Honorable Minister also expressed her concern about the low transition from UCE to UACE in science subjects despite the fact that Government through the Ministry of Education and Sports has invested heavily in provision of teaching ,learning materials and science laboratories.
Mbarara High has the best,Tashobya Emmanuel who scored 6AAA2 (20) followed by Muhwezi Prize 6AAA4 (20).
Ntare’s Bwebale William has the same score of 6AAA4 while Maryhill’s Abamukama Robinah has 4AAA3.
