There was drama at Bushenyi-Ishaka municipal council headquarters on Friday after angry councilors closed the municipal offices over what they referred to as abuse office.
The councilors fault the municipal town clerk William Makune for allegedly failing to account for 194 million Uganda shillings received for first quarter of the 2019/2020 financial year.
The mayor Jackson Kamugasha said that the decision to close municipal offices was reached at during the council sitting, on its second day.
He says that the technical staffs boycotted the meeting which prompted the councilors to close the office until Tuesday next week awaiting the intervention from the minister of local government.
Bushenyi municipal council speaker Gladys Bekunda said due to limited time on Thursday, the council was adjourned to Friday but to their disappointment, the technocrats shunned the meeting and there was no body present to respond to their concerns.
Apollo Kakonge the executive director of western Ankole civil society forum applauded the councilors saying it is their role to hold the leaders accountable.
Kakonge reveals that the municipality has been over taken by impunity and corruption which is crippling service delivery.
