Mbarara Politics; Edward Kasibante, one of those arrested for allegedly plotting to kill Kakiika division National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Chairman Benon Mugume, has revealed that Mugume promised him Sh10 million to deceive that he was hired by a one Pius Beingana and Africa Godwin to murder him.

The three and their sureties were on Friday March 6, granted Sh3 million non-cash bail each by Mbarara magistrate’s court and will return in court on Tuesday March 10,2020.

Edward claims that he was doing his job (nail polishing and cutting) last month when he was approached by Pius and Godwin whom he later agreed to work with to rally support for someone who has moved to aspire as a division mayor when Mbarara becomes a city, facing Mugume.

He was given Sh20,000 by the two, to use as airtime and he gave them positive feedback by convincing some people in few days, before meeting a client who told him ‘SHE’ could link him to another  rich politician (Mugume) for a mega deal.

Edward adds that he later received a call from Mugume as the lady had promised, met him at Acacia hotel on Tuesday Feb 18, 2020 where he refused the deal and Mugume called security officers who took him to Mbarara Police Central Station.

‘They took me to police and they put me in a VIP cell. A day later, Mugume told me I was on a deal and he sent his son who sent Sh50,000 to my wife and he left an officer  with Sh20,000 to take care of me. I later agreed and they used a phone to call Pius and Godwin, they told me what to say, and they arrested them.’ Kasibante narrated. He says they have since been convincing him to pin Pius and Godwin.

When contacted, Mugume quashed Kasibante’s allegations, saying the team is led by LC3 chairperson Kyabwiisho to concoct this move.

Story background (Feb 22,2020):

Mbarara Police has arrested three people for allegedly plotting to murder Kakiika Division National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson Mr Benon Mugume who is also a businessman in Mbarara municipality western Uganda.

The suspects have been identified as Pius Beingana the chairman Kakiika court,Africa Godwin head of security in the division and Kasibante Edward who was hired from Kiboga district to execute the mission.

Benon on Friday Feb 21,2020 revealed that his friends recently told him of a person looking for him (Edward) whom he convinced to meet before alerting security that arrested him on Tuesday evening February 18,2020 at Acacia hotel Mbarara.

Upon arrest,Edward was asked to call Pius and Godwin demanding for the balance because they had deposited Shs500,000 out of Shs10 million and that prompted their arrest.

Godwin was arrested from his home Koranorya Kakiika and Pius arrested from his workplace Mackhansigh Street on Friday morning Feb 21, 2020.

According to Mugume, he has three previous cases; Assault E42/2015, Kidnap CRB 735/2016 and Attempted murder SD 423/2016 which makes him live a suspicious life especially during this political season.

‘Kakiika L C 3 Chairperson Kyabwisho Gumisiriza was among those who wanted to kill me last regime, we have no good relationship, as of now I suspect him to be involved,’ a worried Mugume said. He added that he suspects these plans to be politically fueled since he has expressed interest to run for Kakiika Division mayor during the next elections (2020/21) and he won’t stop contesting as he has already notified authorities.

Our efforts to get a comment from the implicated L C 3 chairperson Kyabwisho went futile.
