Presidential hopeful, Rtd Lt. Gen Henry Tumukunde’s task force is not asleep despite the ‘heavy’ charges against their superior, former Security Minister who has moved to unseat President Museveni in the next General Elections.
Tumukunde who has been on remand at Luzira prison for close to two months on charges of treason and being found in possession of firearm and ammunition was finally released on bail of sh50 million non cash yesterday Monday,May 11,2020 by Kampala High Court judge Wilson Kwesiga who held the session at Buganda road court via video conferencing.
Other bail terms are that his three sureties who include his wife, Ms Stella Tumukunde were each bonded at Shs50m non cash and Tumukunde was also ordered to deposit his passport in court. He’ll return to City hall court on May 20,2020.
Justice Kwesiga concurred with him that the treason charges that he is facing, no serving military officer at his rank of Lt Gen or higher, would want to associate with him.
The judge had, in his last month’s bail terms against Tumukunde, among others, ordered him to present at least two sureties who are serving military officers at his rank or higher with a letter of introduction from the Chief of Defence Forces.
Tumukund’s task force recently donated 6 tonnes of maize flour in fighting coronavirus saying the relief food was mobilized from different parts of Uganda, maintaining that the General is still a Presidential aspirant and this is ‘Treason Without Reason.’
