A section of residents of Kiyanja cell in Kamukuzi division  Mbarara municipality have protested the continued encroachment on the water channel and a swamp which pours its waters in Lakeview dam.

According to the locals, some people have started planting Eucalyptus trees and construction, which locals say will attract flooding in the area and destruction of their property.

Deogious Kwezi, one of the locals is calling upon relevant authorities to intervene before they experience the situation like that in Kasese and other areas which have been affected by flash floods after heavy rains.

When contacted, the Southwestern regional National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) coordinator, Jeconious Musingwire warned that they are soon going to remove all illegal structures and property, saying that they once went and enforced the law in the area but residents have adamantly returned in the gazetted area.
