Kanungu Priest Held for Defying Presidential Directives on COVID-19

Police in Kanungu district is holding the archdeacon of Nyamiyanga

Archdeaconry Rev Canon Patrick Habaasa together with other three Christians for disobeying government directives.

 Rev Canon  Habaasa on Sunday  led service at Nyamiyanga church of Uganda  which also involved the baptism of children which prompted residents who informed police before it moved in to have them arrested.

According to APN Reporter police led by Officer in charge of Butogota police station  Joel Bikuta Joel received directives from the District police headquarters in  Kanungu to arrest those who were carrying out service in defiance of the presidential directives aimed at checking the spread of COVID-19.

 According to Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate, about 25 Christians had turned up for the service and took off when the police arrived.

Maate says that the four will be charged with an act of   negligence likely to spread infectious disease.
