Journalists in Kabale have this afternoon stormed out of a meeting with the area resident district commissioner Darious Nandinda accusing him of being a dictator.
The journalists had gone to the office of the resident district commissioner after an incident on Wednesday where Richard Akandwanaho a journalist attached to Voice of Kigezi had his mobile phone confiscated.
Akandwanaho was covering an operation by police in the central business district of Kabale Municipality.
Today, the journalists moved to the office of the Resident district commissioner Darious Nandinda to share with him on the several incidents where journalists have been intimidating and harassed by him as they execute their duties by the commissioner instead started ordering them to hand over their gadgets before they could talk.
The move angered the journalists who instead stormed out of the meeting and decided to slap a black out on the commissioner.
Job Apuli a journalist attached to the New vision says that the behavior of the commissioner is Barbaric and un acceptable.
Rodgers Asiimwe a journalist working with freedom Radio says that the commissioner’s actions do not correspond with the position that he holds.
Arinda Nsheeka an online journalist says that the RDC who should be protecting the media during this time is the one trying to narrow their operating space.
Kabale district Ampaire has however promised to meet the journalists and ensure that the standoff is addressed.
