Authorities in Mbarara district and Municipality have intervened to resolve escalating disagreements between different councilors, other politicians, activists and others stakeholders over interim leadership of Mbarara City as Mbarara becomes city effective July 1,2020.
This follows information that Mbarara district Chairperson Rtd. Capt. Tumusiime Bamuturaki intends to stand as City Mayor against others including incumbent Robert Kakyebezi plus another information that various people have already allocated themselves duties.
Capt. Bamuturaki who quashed the allegations of standing as city mayor, on Thursday May 28,2020 revealed that he is contented as district chair but that doesn’t stop him from intervening to put issues right both in the district and municipality.
‘No Mbarara policies so we must follow guidelines from the Ministry of Local Government,’ he said.
Ministry of Local Government is expected to pronounce categorically clear guidelines on the interim leadership of 7 municipalities that were recently elevated to city status effective July 1, 2020.
