Mbarara officially becomes city

The Local Government Minister, Raphael Magyezi has officially launched Mbarara City at former white house municipal headquarters that will be the city council headquarters as authorities decide on whether the city headquarters should be former district headquarters Kamukuzi or remain at white house. 

While launching at white house, minister Magyezi revealed that the ministry is optimistic that the new cities will cause a positive impact on development and authorities will continue monitoring their operation especially currently when there are some issues to settle like leadership and headquarters.

Other new cities are; Mbale, Jinja, Masaka, Gulu, Arua, Fort Portal and other clusters of municipalities set to be cities are; 1 July 2021- Hoima, Lira and Soroti, 1 July 2022 – Entebbe, 1 July 2023 – Moroto,Nakasongola, Kabale and Wakiso.
