The body of the fallen Brigadier General Victor Twesigye Marengano the Uganda military attache to the east African community in Arusha ,Tanzania was on Saturday laid to rest at his ancestral Home in Kisiizi Rukungiri district.
Brigadier Victor Twesigye Marengano died suddenly on Thursday at his home after he slid and fell in his bathroom in Kisizi just a day he returned from Kampala.
Speaker after Speaker described Brigadier Twesigye Marengano as officer who was committed to his work.
Major Gen. Dr Ambrose Musinguzi the UPDF chief of medical services said that the late Brigadier General Twesigye died due blood clot.
Lt. Gen Wilson Mbadi described the late Brigadier General Twesigye as a disciplined and committed army officer who did his work and worked hard for the good of the country and his family as even though he used to be given assignments away from his home.
Dr. Chris Baryomunsi the state Minister of housing who represented the government said that the death of Brigadier Twesigye is a big blow as he has been a committed soldier , a true patriot who served his country well.
Dr. Baryomunsi said that people need to keep on following the ministry of health guidelines of social distancing and handwashing so as to fight the COVID 19 epidemic saying that that’s why they decided to limit the number of people at the burial.
” We need to keep enforcing the ministry of health guidelines as a way of fighting the COVID- 19 epidermic as a government we reduced on people to go at burial as a way of stopping the spread of the virus I know what has been said on brigadier Victor all people would have liked to be here but that’s impossible”. Dr. Baryomunsi said.
The burial ground was awash with many mourners however due to Coronavirus pandemic, many of them were not allowed to access the place.
Brig Twesigye received a thirteen-gun salute, usually accorded to fallen army officers from the rank of brigadier and above.
His burial was attended by senior UPDF officers, politicians, family members and a few friends due to the limitations of the coronavirus pandemic.
Some of the UPDF officers at Brig Twesigye’s burial include Major Gen (Rtd)Timothy Sabiti Mutebile the former commander of engineering brigade, Maj Gen George Igumba, Maj Gen Gavas Mugyenyi the Uganda defense attached in India , Maj Gen Dr Ambrose Musinguzi the UPDF chief of medical services, Maj Gen Henry Masiko the UPDF political commisar , Brig Baguma Mugume, Brig Richard Karemire the UPDF spokesperson , Hon Brig Francis Takirwa the 2 division commander and UPDF MP , Hon Maj Evelyn Asiimwe MP and Col Paddy Ankunda the UPDF, Canon Dr Johnson Byabasheija the commissioner General of Prisons,Kabakumba Matsiko former Information Minister, Mary Paula Turyahikayo the Rubabo county MP ,andrewson Katebire the rukungiri LC5 boss among others .
The deceased is survived by his wife Margaret Twesigye and three children.
Brig. Twesigye’s death comes the death of three other UPDF Generals including Brig. Gen Jackson Bell Tushabe, Maj General Erick Mukasa and Maj General Kasirye Ggwanga.
Apart from Brig Twesigye who died following a bathroom accident, the rest of the Generals died at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala where they had been receiving treatment.
