Rev. Fr. Victor Tumwebaze, a teacher at St Paul’s seminary Rushoroza in Kabale municipality has asked the government to open places of worship.

Preaching on Sunday  during the morning mass at Rushoroza Cathedral church in Kabale municipality, Fr Tumwebaze wondered why the government has opened other places that attract big gatherings like markets, acades,  and public transport but continues to close places of worship.

Fr Tumwebaze said that the government should open places of worship provided worshipers guided by their leaders can observe Ministry of Health guidelines like sanitizing or washing hands regularly and keeping social distancing.

He added that unless the government thinks of reopening the churches when it’s opening other areas that attract big gatherings, some believers may end up perceiving it as an infringement on their right of worship.

Kitanga Parish Priest Rev.Fr.Gaetano Batanyenda also believes that it now time to reopen the places of worship.

Batanyenda argues that with the reopening of businesses and public transport, more people are converging in towns and other areas yet the churches usually host people of a specific locality.

He says that the crowds are already many in the country and there is no for the government to continue with the ban slapped on all religious gatherings.

President Museveni ordered for the closure of  places of worship on 18th March this year, as a way to reduce the spread risks of COVID- 19 in the country.
