Five hotels in Mbarara city;Rwampara Suites,Leisure Park International Hotel,Golden Monkey, Africa Guest house and Acacia have suspended services on orders of authorities after accommodating COVID-19 positive clients on July 29,2020.
Authorities closed the hotels yesterday, Friday , July 31,2020 and workers have been quarantined for 14 days.
The Deputy RDC Mbarara Emmy Turyabagyenyi Kateera confirmed this, saying one of the confirmed cases is an employee of Uganda
Revenue Authority doubling as member of COVID-19 task force at Bunagana border Kisoro who slept with a girlfriend at Acacia hotel.
Another case working in Tanzania found his way to Mbarara with no official border clearance and when he reached Mbarara he slept at
Leisure Park International hotel before moving to Golden Monkey in Kijungu Nyamityobora where he hired one room and slept with a friend on one bed.
Mbarara District Health Officer Dr Peter Ssebutinde said Mbarara district task force had suspended institutional quarantine in preference to home quarantine.
He confirmed that the victims have been referred to Mbarara Regional referral hospital for treatment and samples of their contacts have been taken for examination and quarantined at Rwentanga Farm Institute.
All workers at the mentioned motels and hotel, their samples have been taken for examination and those who had close engagement with the victims and their contacts have also been quarantined at the same place.
Uganda has registered another COVID-19 death today, bringing total COVID-19 deaths to three.
Results from COVID-19 tests done on July 30,2020 confirm 7 cases bringing total confirmed Ugandan cases to 1,154; 1,028 recoveries.
