Rukiga police investigate the death of LC 1 chairperson

Police in Rukiga is investigating circumstances under which a group of people has allegedly lynched a 62-year-old local council chairperson over gambling.

The deceased is  Frank Byarugaba the LC 1 Chairperson of Kagorogoro cell, Nyakasiru parish, Bukinda sub-county, Rukiga district. He was allegedly attacked by a group of youth who severely cut him to death using pangas.

According to the Police report, the incident happened  on the 21st of Feb.2021 at around 6: 00 pm from Obedi’s bar of the same address when the deceased met his killers in a game of chance known as “Playing cards.”

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate says the case was reported on phone by a concerned resident.

Police immediately responded and found the LC.1 Chairperson  already dead.
Maate says the angry residents went wild and burnt two houses, one for the prime suspect who is on the run and another belonging to his  father.

Three unarmed suspects have so far been arrested according to Maate, to help in investigations.


The case has been registered as “Murder” at Rukiga Police station vide reference number  CRB 089/2021 as Inquiries are underway.
