Muvumbe Hydro into Tree Planting Campaign

Muvumbe Hydro Uganda Limited in Maziba sub county of Kabale district has embarked on a drive to plant fruit on the bare hills of Maziba sub county.

The campaign aims at planting at least 11600 trees in the area through equipping the project affected people in the area. `

Speaking at the launch of the program in Kahondo parish Maziba sub county,Kabale district forestry officer Adios Kyomukama called on the locals to embrace the program since the management of the dam is willing to support them with planting material.
Kyomukama revealed that having trees on bare hills will conserve the environment and bring to an end the rampant soil erosion.

Muvumbe Hydo Uganda Plant Manager Mohamed Mufashir says that the initiative is aimed at supporting the locals around the plant as well as ensure that they bring to an end erosion which brings a lot of silt in water thus affecting the effectiveness of their production.

Muvumbe small hydro power project is a subsidiary of Vidulaka PLC,a Srilikan based company with over ten operational plants in Sri Lanka.

The power station was built across the River Muvumbe commonly known as Kiruruma, a tributary of the Kagera River.
The station is in Kigarama village in Nyanja parish, Maziba Sub-county, Kabale District, in south-western Uganda, close to the international border with Rwanda.
