Police investigate robberies targeting cyclists

Following incidents of robbery of motorcycles in areas of Ndejje the territorial police at Katwe embarked on investigating all circumstances under which boda boda riders were robbed past curfew time. 

According to Kampala metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire,In these kind of incident, a motor vehicle driver knocked  down a rider off the road. The driver and his accomplices stopped and took the motorcycle leaving the injured rider.  Katwe Police Station has registered three incidents. 

While investigating the theft of Sadiq Bendo’s motorcycle UFF 092W, a motor vehicle involved UAS 492W, which is suspected to be used in the theft, was recovered after a tip off.

The motor vehicle had been parked in a yard at Ndejje-Lubugumu yesterday.

Owoyesigyire adds that the police cordoned off the area and a number of items like machetes and wooden bars were found inside the vehicle.  The owner of the parking yard led police to the owners of the vehicle, who have been arrested and identified as Robert Mugisha and another called Sam Muyomba .   A search at their residences enabled police to recover several motorcycle parts. 

The police are looking for more suspects, who are currently on the run. They are suspected to be part of the gang robbing motorcycles in areas of Bunamwaya and Ndejje.

The suspects have been charged with being in possession of suspected stolen motorcycle parts and aggravated robbery.  We call upon to boda boda community to remain vigilant as we fight this new wave of crime.
