Quarry stone kills Rwandan national in Kisoro

A 24-year-old Rwandan national has died after being hit by a huge stone while quarrying in Kisoro district.

Erias Nyabinoni alias Mftitimukiza died on Tuesday at around afternoon while in a stone quarry located in Chahi village, Nyagasinge ward, Northern Division Kisoro municipality. Elly Maate , police spokesperson says that Nyabinoni who was renting in Nyagashinge village, Nyagashinge wards, Northern Division, Kisoro municipality met his death while quarrying stones in the quarry of Jackson Semakoro aged 40, a businessman and a resident of Burihira village, Rwaramba parish, Nyakinama Sub-county, Kisoro District.

Maate says that as Nyabinoni was quarrying, a big stone rolled and hit his left leg. Nyabinoni fell down and the stone again rolled on him through the chest and head. Maate says that Nyabinoni died instantly. According to Maate, Nyabinoni was quarrying stones without any protective gear. He says that the deceased’s body has been taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem as investigations into the matter continue.  The matter is registered at Kisoro police station under file number CRB 172/2021.
