Kabale municipal council Authorities have tasked Bus drivers, Tax drivers, motorcycles, Bicycle mechanics by 1st may 2021 to vacate and relocate to Mwanjari, the new area that is being gazetted for them if they are to continue operating.

While addressing the press at former Mwanjari Cemetery the space that has been allocated by the Municipality for garages, Byamugisha Sentaro the Kabale municipality mayor, vowed that mechanics from garage street were given a maximum grace period since 2019 but since then they have never responded to the call to shift from town to Mwanjari.

He says all the mechanics should vacate the place by 1st may.

The move comes at the time when the municipality is readying itself for a city status and according to Byamugisha, the authorities are revamping different parts of Kabale town trying to renovate places of garage streets into zonal business areas.

Sentaro also says all the mechanics and drivers have been shown their lockups and parking at Mwanjari and the council received the letter from the UNRA requesting the tax drivers loading in front of their offices to vacate the place with effect from 31st April 2021.

He further said that no vehicle will be allowed to load along the road except that one coming out from the park. He says they are in touch with the acting district police commander and have agreed to set their police posts and extend security lights to help in security of the garage and the park.

Ambrose Akanyijuka, a mechanic from Garage Street, says they are ok with the place provided there is security in the place.

He says those who have never attended the meeting with the municipal authorities are the ones opposing the motion

Jimmy Kieta, the Kabale garage street chairman says the authorities gave them a grace period of 6 months and each sub garage was given where to construct.

He says the place is big compared to what they had in town and the mayor assured them that it is will be secured.

However, by the time we wrote down this story, some of the mechanics were still disagreeing with garage owners about where to get money to set up lockups.
