Kyokwijuka urges youth to take on leadership challenges

Young people have been tipped and encouraged to involve themselves in leadership if they are to meaningfully participate in development of Uganda.

The remarks were made by Alexander Kyokwijuka a Kampala-based business consultant who was handing over power as the President of Young African leader’s initiative (YALI) Alumni Chapter of Uganda at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala on 15th, May, 2021.

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a signature program that was started by Former US President Barrack Obama to invest in the next generation of African leaders. President Obama launched YALI in 2010 to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Sub-Saharan Africa. The YALI RLC East Africa is one of the regional hubs that were established to deepen the desire to raise and groom the next breed of African leaders for a better tomorrow.

Having led the group of 553 young change makers in Uganda, Alexander Kyokwijuka was handing over with his team to the new leadership.

 He accounted for a number of achievements that he and his team had accomplished in the last two years including; having registered and formalized the chapter as well as opening an official bank account, leaving behind an accounting policy for the chapter to implement, establishing Regional Clusters each with a database and strategic partnering and resource mobilization tools, where  Five regional chapters were created the western, eastern, central, northern and west Nile regional chapter each with a leadership in place in the form and structure of the national EXCO and strategic planning documents with alumni maps. He also revealed that his leadership had ensured that the chapter gets a fully-fledged secretariat with some office equipment, a website, and a host of new partners for the chapter.

H. E. Natalie E. Brown, the US Ambassador to Uganda, thank Kyokwijuka and his team for serving so well and accomplishing numerous extinguished milestones. She encouraged the new team to learn from the outgoing team so they can continue empowering transformation.

The incoming team thanked the outgoing team for the job well done and promised to carry on the legacy left behind by Kyokwijuka and his team.

Kyokwijuka also promised to keep guiding the new team so they are able to successfully serve the chapter.
