There was a moment of relief and excitement today at Rubanda District Headquarters as National Resistance Movement – NRM Village Chairpersons received bicycles after waiting for close to six years.
The village chairpersons from all corners of Rubanda gathered today at the District headquarters to receive the bicycles that were promised to them by President Yoweri Museveni while campaigning in 2016.
According to the Rubanda District NRM Administrative Secretary Chrismas Dez, the bicycles, yellow in color, were dispatched from the NRM secretariate on Saturday last week and they had been assembled at the Rubanda District Headquarters as his office sorted the list of beneficiaries.
Chrismas said Rubanda District received 501 bicycles manufactured by Avon Cycles Limited, and the beneficiaries were village chairpersons of the NRM who were elected into the Party Mainstream structures in 2015.
Those who received the bicycles told our reporter that the arrival of the bicycles signified victory against the Opposition, especially FDC who had been mocking NRM chairpersons that Museveni had betrayed them by failing to fulfill his promise.
The Rubanda District Resident Commissioner Peter Rwakifari asked the Beneficiaries to use the Bicycles in mobilization for the party and avoid selling them away.
He revealed that President Museveni was concerned about the reduced NRM support from Rubanda District especially in Nyamweru subcounty where FDC is believed to be gaining strength.
In the recent Presidential elections, Rubanda scored 87% in voting for President Museveni which is lower than 90% scored in 2016, but still higher than the rest of Greater Kabale .
Kabale District came in the 2nd position with 84% while Rukiga came in the third position with 82%.
Rwakifari also applauded Rubanda District for ranking 16th in voting highest for Museveni in the 2021 elections.
