Rubanda Man On the Run After Burning Wife And Children

Police in Rubanda District is hunting fir a 45 year old man who locked his wife and children inside the family house and burnt them to ashes.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate has explained that the incident happened 12th June 2021 at around 11pm in Habutobere village, Butare parish, Muko subcounty Rubanda district.

The suspect has been identified as Armstrong Vian 45,  a business man who  is known for having long time quarrels with his wife now deceased Ms Muheki Lovinah 43. It is said that Vian used petrol to burn down his wife and children namely his three children namely;-Edwin 17, Westlife 15 and Akira 5.

According to Police report, last evening the Vian was was sighted at fuel station buying petrol.  When he reached home, he locked the wife, children inside and set the house on fire. He reportedly locked one of the neighbours inside his own house so that he that doesn’t come out and help them.

It is not yet clear why exactly the suspect decided to burn his family doen, but our reporter has established that he recently married a second wife at the climax of the wrangles he had with his deceased wife.

Maate said the scene was visited by a team led by Rubanda District Police Commander ASP Bonny Echonga, who cordoned off the place and put off the fire.

Pictures from the scene of crime obtained by our reporter show remains of two children covered in soot and it is hard to identify them since the largest parts of the body are burnt beyond recognition.

Maate added that Police has launched the hunt for the suspect and the case has been registered as “MURDER BYARSON” at Muko Police Staion under reference SD 15/12/06/2021 to guide further investigations.
