Police in Rukungiri are holding a couple in connection with the death of their daughter.
The two are being held in connection with the death of 9-year-old Mary Ninsiima.
Those arrested are Danson Ampumuza the child’s biological father and Barbra Ninsima her step mother all residents of Kyeshero village in Nyabiteter parish in Buyanja sub county –Rukungiri district.
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says that it is alleged that on the 11/07/2021, the step mother assaulted her to death when the father was away and on return he was informed and the two decided to dump her body in Kyeshero swamp.
The two later started disguising as if the child was missing and they reported the matter to Marumba police post under reference SD 03/13/07/2021.
It was on the 17/07/2021 at around 19:00hrs when her body was discovered by Fabian Asaba and Benson Akandwanaho both male juveniles who had gone to cut papyrus from the same swamp.
Maate says that the two alerted the area chairperson one Justus Kamuhamya who reported to police.
He adds that the Scene was visited by police,body was retrieved and taken to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary pending postmortem.
On interrogating the two, that’s when it was established that was murdered hence the two were arrested as investigations into the matter continue.
