Police in Kabale have rescued two men from an angry mob that beat them to a pulp on an accusation of rape and murder of a 45-year-old woman.

The victims are Amos Byamukama and Saturday Samuel, both residents of Katuna Town council in Kabale District. They were on Thursday evening beaten severely for allegedly collaborating in the rape and murder of Florence Muhirwe a resident of Kanyanjoka cell, Kacerere ward, Katuna Town Council.

The Lifeless body of Muhirwe was on Wednesday morning found lying in the uninhabitable house of Amos Mugisha. Amos was reportedly seen with the deceased on the evening of Wednesday, and Police had identified him as the main suspect in the murder case registered at Kabale Police Station.

According to the acting Kabale District Police Commander ASP Henry Kisembo the residents started hunting for Saturday and Byamukama until they landed on them today while loitering in Katuna Town. Kisembo says the suspects were beaten badly and the angry mob wanted to lynch them, but officers from Katuna Police post intervened.

By the time of filing this story, the two men were lying in the Patrol Car at Kabale Police station and Kisembo said they would first be taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment before they are transported back to be charged officially and taken to court.
