Accountant loses job after refusing to succumb to sexual violence

Authorities are investigating the sexual Assault case on Ms. Immaculate Kicoco 23year after being Assaulted sexually and terminated from her job.

Immaculate who was working with Bridge Comfort as an accountant alleges that her termination from the job followed her decision to turn down advances for sex from the boss.

” I have been recording him whenever he could call me and I have many of his recordings demanding for sex and threatening to fire me if I keep resisting” immaculate narrates as in tears.

The victim states that she is psychologically tortured and has since then felt that she does not need to seek for any other employment opportunity since she may be treated like the way it unfolded at her former job.

Another staff of Bridge Comfort company who requested anonymity said that it is the habit of Ivan Byaruhanga to demand for sex from every staff and that whenever he is to give you a job he first asks you if you are willing to be there for him whenever he demands for sex.

Immaculate who is seeking support to access a psychologist. Immaculate seeks support to sue Byaruhanga and the company in courts of law so that she gets justice and which can save other young ladies suffering. Many girls are being sexually harassed and threatened to be terminated from their jobs, Immaculate states.

The COVID -19 lockdown has seen several females lose jobs, some tortured and others harassed as they try to survive.

Immaculate is not alone, a waitress at hotel in Kigongi ward, Kabale central division says that she was fired after refusing to give in to demands for sex by the son of her employer.

The waitress in question is said to have been summarily fired and not paid her wages for a period of two months and threatened with arrest.

Agatha Nasasira the ASSURE Uganda protection officer says that it is unfortunate that young people whose dream to attain a better and brighter future have had their ambitions cut shot by people whose interests are only aimed at ruining their future instead of giving them a chance to explore their potential.

ASSURE Uganda is a young people-led not-for-profit movement that is seeking to enhance, promote and advocate for peace, justice, and action on Climate change.

The organization aims at having a peaceful world and vows to fight for the dignity of young people with extra emphasis on the girl child.

The organization has also promised to work closely with the victims in seeking for legal redress.
