AK Estates Limited the company contracted to work on an 11 kilometers road in Kamwezi sub county has come under fire from the locals over alleged shoddy work.

Locals and leaders in the area are concerned that the works being executed are far below the standards and the contractor has failed to listen to the cries of the people.

The company in question is undertaking the construction of three roads with two of the roads in Kabale and another in Rukiga a project worth over 300 million shillings.

The Nyakisa-Kabira-Karera-Nango road connects the parishes of Kashekye-Kyabuhangwa and Kyogo in Kamwezi sub county.

Julius Turyagumanawe another concerned citizen says that the works should  be redone and efforts to have bigger culverts in place if value for money is to be realized.

Frolence Ayebare an area resident says that it is disturbing to find that the contractor is doing shoddy work and putting the tax payer’s money to waste.

Kamwezi sub county LC III chairperson Tedson Niwagaba says that the contractor and his representatives have resorted to putting in place narrow culverts and poor quality marram in the road which will render it slippery once it rains.

He says that the leaders have already informed the area woman member of parliament Kamusiime Caroline Miuhwezi who was at the forefront of lobbying for the project.

Efforts to get a comment from the contractor were fruitless as calls to their known contacts went answered.

Rukiga Woman member of parliament Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi told our reporter that she is concerned by the manner in which the works have been executed and she has already taken interest in following up the matter to ensure that people get work worth the money being spent.
